The Easiest, Most Practical Drugstore Cleansing Routine…..
Hey friends! I suffered with bad acne, and blemishes starting in middle school, and through my adulthood. I hated my skin, I hated me!!!! It gave such low self-esteem, and it almost made me a hermit crab. :/ There were over the counter products that I purchased, or saw someone else using that did a superb job on their skin. Have you ever just stuck to a product because it was just your norm? Or that you were afraid to venture out, and try something else? I did this soooooooo long, and how dumb of me!!!
I had the worst skin in America, and it got even worse when I went through my divorce, and had my second baby Cole. My skin was hideous, and I wouldn’t hardly come out of the house. Once I had gotten tired of being cooped up in the house with a 4 year old, and 1 year old I was ready to get back out there!
Stress and Worry Doesn’t Help…..
No one wants terrible skin, or blemishes for the matter! I just dreaded going anywhere with any of my friends. At the time Cole was still battling things in the hospital, and my mind was in a million places. The dermatologist was the last thing on my mind, and he wasn’t my focus with an ill baby. Once I got Cole home from hospital, we settled in, and he was on a really good recovery road I focused more. The late nights at the hospital, talking to doctor after doctor just didn’t help my skin not one bit!
Going through a divorce, and almost losing my son left me in a crummy place. I was really hitting the wall, and needed a lot of hope. We lived in that hospital for 5 months, and it was a nightmare day in and day out! It is true what they say beauty is skin deep, and you have to purge yourself of these things so that you can focus on getting well. My dermatologist played an integral part in my whole being, and helping me with my self-esteem through my appointments with him.
These are some of my most favorite things that I use from the drugstore. I love wearing makeup, just hate taking it off at night. Sometimes makeup fools you, and it looks as though its off but its really not! My acne was concentrated in my cheeks, and it was really bad too. I would pick at it, and it would just turn into sores, and boils. Believe me when I say that this skin was a dead zone, and I was hiding in a cave. When I get home this is what I use to remove my makeup first…..
Garnier Skin-Active Micellar Water….
This Micellar Water just appeared within the last year or so, and it is so nice on my skin. My skin is so sensitive, and can get inflamed quickly if I am not too careful. Don’t get me wrong I was so nervous before I used this the first time. Well, the verdict is that I recommend this for anybody that need even just a fresh face refresh. I use this even if I don’t have on any makeup, it is so soft and gentle on your skin. This has also been a really great dermatologist recommendation from other doctors I have heard. This is their biggest bottle, and it usually lasts me about a month. It doesn’t leave a film, or residue. This is the best invention and it is under $7.00 (can’t beat that with a stick).
Oil of Olay Gentle Face Cleanser…..
My dermatologist began me on an antibiotic, luckily I never had to take anything stronger to help clear up my skin such as (accutane). I have heard lots of swaying opinions about this medicine, but if it works for you then (GREAT)!!!! I started on my regimen that he had me try out, and I was consistent because I wanted to see results fast. It took about 3 weeks before I started to really turn the corner. He started me on a very gentle face wash, which consisted of NO oils, NO dyes, NO fragrance, NO nothing!! If you notice the fine print on most of these bottles is that they are made for sensitive skin.
Well, the face wash that my dermatologist had me using was a whopping $30/bottle, and I couldn’t afford to keep using that monthly being on a single parent budget. Well, I had to find something very comparable, and I found this Oil of Olay Gentle Face Wash. I knew that there was something that was easy on my skin, and would still help keep it clear. This face wash was a recommendation from a close friend who had struggled with the same thing. She had actually been on (accutane), and loved the results, but hated the symptoms of the drug. #bummer This is the most gentle wash, and cost under $5.00 (say whatttttttttt)!!!!!
St. Ives Apricot Scrub…..
Ok, this was scary for me…. I was always afraid to use something harsh on my skin. Exfoliants can be overused, and abused. I did a lot of research for what was the best type of usage for my sensitive skin, or anybody else’s for that matter. Well, after asking a million questions, researching, and reading this is what I discovered. I learned that I should only be exfoliating my skin at least 2 times a week to slough off that old skin, and help the new skin appear. This was a game changer for me, and I fell so hard for this stuff. I love using this Apricot Scrub, it is so gentle on your skin, and does an amazing job. I only exfoliate twice a week, on Monday night, and Thursday morning does the best job for my skin routine. My skin care routine in this order……
Order of Routine
Apricot Scrub (Monday night and Thursday morning only)
Rinse off Scrub (I use cold water only, it closes my pores)
Oil of Olay
Clinique Moisturizer (under my makeup)
Clinique Moisturizer….(Game Changer)
Once again here I was faced with something I needed to choose that would not make me greasy, but help nourish my skin. I tend to be normal to oily skin, and I just get oilier as the day goes by. I do use a drugstore primer, and love the one I use, but I also moisturize my face with this, and love it a lot! This bottle wasn’t too expensive at all, I think it was maybe $23-$26 bucks!! It has lasted me a while now, its been over 6 months since I purchased it around Christmas. This is a very lightweight moisturizer won’t weigh you down, or make your skin look greasy. What may work for me, may not work for everyone else. I just wanted to give you some insight on some of the products that continously help my skin day after day. I am not an expert, and don’t claim to be one. This may be helpful for someone who suffers with this. If you live in the Houston area, this was the office that literally, brought me back from the dead West Houston Dermatology!
