Second Hand Dining Chairs Get a Face Lift With Behr……..
You guys do not know how long I have waited to find these chairs second hand!!! These chairs took a quick face lift with Behr Marquee Paint for the quality, life, and longevity. The dining room table was built a month or so after Hurricane Harvey. Being that this was a 10 seater table (still swooning), I wanted the perfect type of chairs to adorn my table. I looked high and low for these second hand chairs, and finally came across these on FB. Whenever you are looking for something second hand, always consider points when looking. I will definitely share with you my methods I use when buying second hand. There are several pieces in our home that were second-hand, but you would never know.
The Process of Painting Wood, or Second Hand Items….
Of course you can see what this chair looked like before we began. They were that standard light golden brown kitchen table chair. They almost reminded me of a cork color chair, but just way to light for my taste. In the background you can see that I have a very rustic, wooden table that I am so in love with. This table is my dream table, and it definitely came true in 2017. Remember life is what you make it, and if you make it grand, then that “IT” will be!!!!! We decided to use KILZ paint to start the priming process, because this chair did have a shiny coating on it. When we decided to go with Home Depot paint, they recommended Behr Marquee Paint. This does push up the cost a little, but the quality is up there people. This paint already had a built in primer, but I need the comfort of knowing that I did a good job! So what that being said we used the KILZ first, which does a fabulous job.
This paint primer does it’s job, and I am so happy to have it for this job! My purpose was to find 8 chairs for this table, and keep the project cost under $200.
Second Hand Chairs 8- $160
Kilz Primer– $7.98
Behr Marquee- Color -Carbon (semi-gloss) quart– $27.89
Paint Brushes- (Already Keep A Stock Pile At Home)
Project Total...$195.96 (Woohoo)!!!
As, we can see being that this paint is semi-gloss it does give the chairs a high shine. The shine doesn’t stay that way, it is just reflecting wet paint. In the next few pictures you can see the way it dried, and how beautiful they look.
These chairs came out so beautifully, and they look so good with my table. If you have a vision always try to see it through. My husband always, always tells me that the vision is only in my head! He will just help me to bring it to life, and can you get any sweeter friends!!
Searching For Second Hand Furniture Pieces and What To Look For….
When you decide that second hand may be the route for you and your budget. Always try to consider several buying points so that you get the best bang for your buck! We also want you to win on getting a piece of furniture that could possibly last 10 more years in your home. I have been on both ends of the selling, and buying end so I have seen how it can be handled both ways. I wrote a post on buying and selling second hand furniture HERE. That post was written after I sold that home, which was quickly! I sold both my homes in less than a week, and wrote about that HERE.
Always Consider These Points
Make sure to do a lot of searching before you grab the first thing you see. (I do and it pays off)
Once you locate it, it never hurts to ask if that is the final price????
If you know that it is quality ask them can you see it up close, before you make a decision.
When you look at it up close, make sure to flip it upside down, all around to double check condition.
Always compare the price of what you could have paid for it off the showroom floor. (Lucky dog syndrome kicks in)!!!
What has been some of the most prize pieces that you have found second hand???
