I love this fish taco we decided to create. We aren’t very big on any marinades, or salsas either. Being that I am from a truly Southern family fish tacos were a far cry away from my norm.

My goal is to be able to give you a really Simple, Quick Fish Taco Recipe, and or any other recipe that might be helpful for your family. I have come to a place in my brood of boys to be the mom that makes really simple, effective, yet yummy recipes.
My boys can be some of your hardest critics, but they are very gentle about too many opinions running around. There are definitely rules to keep in mind when you are eating at my table.
Easy, Gentle Effective Table Rules
- Make sure to show up to the table on time, or you may have to wait for your plate!
- Keep in mind that someone cared so much about you, that they cared enough to cook for you!
- Also, make sure to thank the cook, it can be hard work with 5 guys.
- Be mindful of your table manners, they are being watched closely.
- Have conversations with your family, they love having you there to eat with them.
- Don’t forget the cook doesn’t cook, and do the dishes!
Choosing Fresh Fish Based on Appearance…..
There are so many dimensions to fish, and I choose the “NOT” fishy dimension. I love eating fish, but definitely not “FISHY” fish. I am so big on smells when it comes to seafood.
Growing with a deep southern background, mom, grandmother, grandfather etc. These people are so responsible for the makeup and background of my taste buds.
I love cooking, recently I made these HERE. They turned out so yummy friends! Recipes shouldn’t boast easy, if they are rendering easy, fresh, and simple for me. I tend to search for tons of recipes but will click away if there are a zillion ingredients too many!
Watch Out For These Bad Fish Indicators
- If the fish has any noticeable odor, it should be briny and of the sea, like seaweed. Anything noticeably pungent, “fishy,” or similar to the scent of a beach at low tide should be avoided, as this indicates decay, and the off-putting aroma will only be intensified by cooking.
- I normally purchase my fish already filet for me, and not too have worry about bones.
- Fish should be pink in color, and not brown, or opaque looking! That means please don’t “EAT ME”, I could be trouble.
- Never be afraid to ask your fish monger to smell the fish before purchase, (I DO)!!!!
I mean really who wants Terrible Quick Fish Tacos, not me?
Cooking On High Heat…….
Shallow Frying
Shallow frying is cooking in a small quantity of fat sufficient to come up to the level of half the thickness of the fish – in a wide shallow pan.
The best fat for fish is butter or half butter and half olive oil. The oil combined with the butter reduces the risk of overheating the butter.
I find that when I cook with both of these components they render a really tasty, delicate tasting fish! I love using this type of cast iron skillet HERE. If you don’t own a cast iron skillet grab you one, and shame on you. This is my next piece of cookware that I am dying over HERE.
I didn’t want to just throw a Simple Quick Fish Taco recipe at you, but give you some good guidance when it comes to picking fish, tools, and taste! Bringing a fish recipe with tons of marinades, too many creamy dressings, and not enough business in the plan.
Seafood tacos of any sort does not have to be something that is boring, and uninteresting either. It only takes a little bit of effort, and creative planning to rock a simple fish taco.
Even though I am shallow pan frying these tacos, I took them to a whole other level. I decided to try blackened fish tacos, and OMG!! These were some really amazing tasting tacos friends!
Seasoning Your Tacos …..
You can literally use any seasoning that you would like such as cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, red pepper, jerk seasoning etc…
These are going to be amazing any way you spin it! We decided not too fry the fish due to the high fat content. It frying the fish is your thing then be my guest. I love them fried too, but don’t want the unhealthy fats, and or calories either.
These are on my list to make next. They look so stinking yummy.

I know there are ways of using marinades, frying, pan searing, or shallow frying. Some friends may even like to deep fry their fish, grill it, or even blacken.
